Abstract
Congenital cholesteatoma is an epithelial-lined cyst filled with desquamated keratin thought to be acquired embryologically from squamous epithelial rest in the temporal bone. Congenital cholesteatoma may originate in various locations within the temporal bone, but the mastoid is the least frequent. We report an unusual case of congenital cholesteatoma that originated in and was restricted to the mastoid and presented as a mass that made the external auditory canal stenotic. Congenital cholesteatoma isolated to the mastoid was completely removed through simple mastoidectomy, canaloplasty with conchal cartilage and perichondrium. We herein report a case on a congenital cholesteatoma isolated to the mastoid with a brief review of the literature.
